Three Signs You Need To Rest

It’s healthy to think of managing your lifestyle as a means of balancing your energies. We often understand this on a daily basis – going to sleep for eight hours a night to recharge for the next day of work and responsibilities, even if we have a day off, we have things to do. It’s also true that the relational energies we give and receive, be that with friends, our partners, or colleagues, help us feel inspired and connected in the social web of our lives.

Our finances are a form of energy also, providing us the means to function and enjoy freedom, a resource we have to earn. A careful management of all of these energies is the skill of being an adult human, and yes, it takes quite some time to learn. Some people perfect it at different times, and some never really do.

From time to time, we need to release that energy to help it flow a little more creatively. This allows us to settle back into our regular routines with a sense of comfort. In this post, hope to show you a few signs that you should get out there, find that energy release, and “blow off steam” as it were. This way, you can return to your usual, responsible life with more clarity and calm:

Difficulty Concentrating

Sure, we could start with the idea that those who need to blow off steam are a moment away from losing their temper, or constantly degraded and stressed, or who feel like they’ll snap at any second. But that’s not really the truth. Those are specific signs, sure, but not everyone feels thrown around in this way. For some, the need to blow off steam comes from subtle signs, such as having trouble concentrating. If this sounds like you, it might be time to spend some time disconnected from the internet. Booking a day off to relax, read, go for a walk, enjoy a spa day, all of this can help you avoid fragmentary focus on productive effort and restore your perspective a little.

Routine Fatigue

If you’re encountering persistent fatigue, especially if it’s combined with other physical symptoms like weight loss, it may be time to visit your physician. That being said, fatigue can also be a sign of feeling trapped in a somewhat tired schedule. If you’ve started to find your commute highly tiring and uncomfortable, and are desperate for a new outlook, booking ashort-term travel adventure with a friend or relative can be ideal. Packing your suitcase with beachwear, bikini bottoms (and tops, hopefully), or hiking boots can inspire you to get out in nature and reconnect to your sense of self.

Negative Self-Talk

It’s important to mind your self-talk. When we’re stressed, tired or unhappy, we tend to be harsher with ourselves. Do you chastise yourself severely for small mistakes like spilling the milk while making your morning coffee? It could be this flash of harmful self-regard is masking a burnt out, tired, and unhappy mode of living. Meeting a friend, talking through this with a relative, or living more gently could help you slowly become a better friend to yourself.
