Washington D.C. – Tidal Basin

This past weekend was the first time that it felt like spring, temps reached over 80 degrees and this meant one thing, there was absolutely no reason to stay in doors. If anybody knows me, I love to travel and explore and I have an undying love for downtown D.C. It was the perfect opportunity to go into downtown and play tourist. I have visited the city several times and it still feels like a new experience each time.  There is always something new I notice or discover and I just have to return and experience whatever my new discovery is.

The goal for this visit was to see the Cherry Blossom tress as this weekend was the peak. Washington D.C. is especially beautiful when the trees have bloomed and the Tidal Basin is the best place to view them. There is a Cherry Blossom festival filled with music and food around this time, which makes the experience that much more exciting. The trees wrap around the basin and it can be quite a walk. Also, the closest metro stop to the Tidal Basin is L’Enfant Plaza or Smithsonian which is over a ten minute walk, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. I got off at the Smithsonian metro stop and used the guide below to walk to the basin.

The view of the Jefferson Memorial, the pink flowers and the blue water make for such a breath-taking scenery. Not to mention there is an amazing view of the monument from the Jefferson Memorial. In addition, Reagan International Airport is close by, so you have a view of planes entering the city as they land.

Before going to see the Cherry Blossoms, my niece and I decided to get food from Surfside Taco Stand from the Dupont location. Their tacos are amazing and they are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. If you are ever in town, this is a must stop. I got the Cabo San Lucas Tacos and yum is all I can say….

Because we got into D.C. so late in the day, we did not get a chance to explore anything else. I plan to visit D.C. more this summer and share my experiences and new discoveries with you. Stay tuned and hope you enjoyed this post.

XoXo… Nia!!!
