How To Detox and Recharge Your Body

An unhealthy diet combined with stress, lack of sleep and lack of exercise can wear down your body. When it gets to this point, a detox is often necessary. This is a chance to give your body a break from the unhealthy foods and stress, while catching up on sleep at night and being more active in the day. Afterwards, you’ll feel brand new and ready to take on the world again.

A Few Signs It’s Time For A Detox

  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Digestive issues (e.g. constipation, bloating)
  • Skin problems (e.g. spots, eczema)
  • Irritability/lack of motivation
  • Reliance on pills or caffeine to get through the day

How To Detoxify Your Body

The best way to give your body a detox is to let your body naturally detoxify itself. This involves taking a break from all the bad habits that have been turning your body into a toxic stew of sugar, fat and cortisol. A few ways to detoxify your body include:

Reduce stress

Take a break from as many stressful responsibilities as you can. This could include taking the week off work and possibly going on vacation somewhere. If you can’t do this, focus on packing stressbusting activities into your evenings such as taking a hot bath, listening to music and meditating. This will flush the cortisol out of your body.

Get more sleep

Ideally we should all be getting at least seven hours sleep per night in order to let our body complete its full sleep cycle. It’s when we sleep that our body does most of its healing and energizing. As a result, try to prioritize sleep for a week or two.

Drink more water

A lack of water can stop all our organs from working at full capacity. It could be the reason for poor skin health, bad breath and poor concentration. Make it your goal to drink eight glasses of water every day so that you’re hydrating yourself properly.

Consume foods rich in antioxidants

Antioxidants are important for our healing process and for boosting our immune system. There are many ways to get more antioxidants into your body. It could be worth thinking about a celery juice cleanse. Alternatively, you could try packing more berries into your diet. Simply upping your fruit and veg may be enough.

Cut out alcohol

Alcohol is one of the biggest toxins that many of us regularly put into our body. Going sober for a week or two could help to give the liver a break and could allow your body to hydrate itself more easily.

Cut out processed foods

Processed foods are often full of colorants, preservatives and other chemicals, as well as being packed full of sugar, salt and fat. Try cooking more meals from scratch for a week. This could make a huge impact on how you feel.

Be physically active

It’s also important to be active. Exercise will help pump blood around the body and keep your immune system up, while also helping you to sleep better at night and giving your body a feelgood release of endorphins.
